Sad Roses

look at the roses

there is the vase

a symbol of passion

expensive perfection

force-grown under glass

and this is your gesture

of undying love?

a weed from the ditches

plucked

as you thought of me

out on your walk

would  show me far more

weeds persist

weeds push through

when the growing gets tough

your love without loyalty

isn’t

enough

Reaching for Heaven

when people talk of desire
they speak of fire and heat
but a fire can be extinguished,
in itself it’s not complete

desire is the beginning
the waking of stronger powers
that sweeps you off your feet
and put a stop to time

only when you are mine
that power comes with a passion
far beyond ourselves
it pushes, it tears, it’s agony,
it’s joy, it’s free, it’s sweet,
it’s the urgent demand of life

when the wind comes down from heaven
and whirls true lovers up,
groaning and gasping,
flying,
upward,
through the longing stars,
they cling with desperation
there’s another dimension
to the grip of their grasping arms
until they fall together,
soft to their tumbled bed

you touch my beating heart
we can talk
or fall asleep
we know we are one whole part
i feel such tenderness
it’s then i can stroke your lovely skin
and cradle your gentle head

excite me, ignite me,
never needs to be said
the fire of desire will return
we’ll go to heaven again
by a slower, gentler path

Venus

Venus wears a diadem
tangled in her outspread hair.
I saw her rise above the hill
and life was not the same again.

Her hair, the night,
deep and black,
yours the dawn.
the sun on fire.

Venus rules the lovers knot.
We lay entwined beneath her spell
and lingered by her flaming fires
where passion is a sacrament.

Now Pan is here.
He came at dawn.
I scent him on the morning air
as I lay sweating in your arms.

Diamonds are dust compressed,
lust and love are all the same.
What I say I say with touch,
words of love without a sound.

Pan is dancing through our sheets
and Venus shines and smiles above.

Winter Witch

Asleep in my arms, an angel,
or am I sleeping, in a dream?
The smell of her soft hair enfolds me,
drowns me, holds me,
emboldens me to think she’s real.
Deep in my dream she pushes, rolls me,.
A hot spark rushes,
entwines my spine,
a strong tender warmth, in the dark.
Every move she makes, a stroke,
a touch that tells me she is mine.
Her gripping thighs press hard against me.
My mind explodes. I’m on fire.
Our passion steams up the windows
and still desire doesn’t tire.
I love her in ways my words never tell.
Her breath on my neck, a bewitchment,
I’m spinning under her spell.
She is wild as rushing water,
she sweeps me home and away.
When the rapid falls are over,
she reaches out for again.
She is drenching rain.
She lays beside me,
slumbering in sensual rest,
contented beneath my hand.
I am her first dry land.
The snow outside is piling high.
White blankets wrap up the door.

With Passion

frustration fills the air
our breath beats out our pace
no embrace is tight enough
to seal the bonds of love
glancing at your face
through tangled hair,
damp with sweat, urgent,
i look into your eyes
i hold you to my chest
i hear your moans express
a need for ever more
a need to leave this place
to fly
the planet is too small
the earth not great enough
to hold this burning love
the fervour is too strong
i hear the cosmos sigh
towards the urge of life
and children to be born
my heart is full of stars
i shower you with them all
my soul begins to fall
we call our angels in
to circle us above
suspended from their wings

The Apples We Stored Away

consider the apple
a treasure
brilliant flowers in spring
ranging from pink to white
a light aroma lifts the spirit
of all who pass close by

decorate your chambers
with blossoms
beauty, bounty of life
after the glory of blossoms
come the succulent fruits

consuming the apple
a journey to paradise
in the presence of love

long past the time of ripeness
when the waves of passion subside
the apples we stored away
soften and wrinkle
their warm fragrance lingers
filling our rooms in winter
where we sit long into the night
in simple companionship

The Red Rose and the White

My lover gave me a rose
It meant a lot to me
She placed it amongst my poems
Where it could simply be

My lover gave me a rose
I gave her all I had, gladly.
Her rose was a heart-felt gift.
Now I mark its absence sadly.

My lover gave me a rose.
It bloomed so strong and red
When she left she took it
Stale perfume remains in my head

My lover gave me a rose.
Now, in my heart, it’s a knife
It’s blade is the red of blood
But it will not take my life

My lover gave me a rose
And a rose is a lovely flower
As a symbol of love its complete
The thorns also have power

If I am asked to choose a rose
I would choose the one that is white
The rose of gentle love and hope
The one you can see in the night

The white rose is given in friendship
With a true and faithful heart
It does not burn with passion
Or vanish when lovers depart

The white rose grows wild at the wayside
Untended, uncared for yet strong
Touched by pink at its tender centre
Couched on a breeze and a birdsong

I don’t need to bind it or cut it
I love the white rose
It shines with compassion
It’s the fairest flower that grows

There is a Love, Like No Other

There is a love, like no other
I try to find the words to tell
It swells the heart
And swims in the throat

A golden burst
Both high and deep
More than passion
It glows, not burns

Soft and wild
Sublime embrace
That reaches out
Explodes, yet stays within

It reaches for the Universe
Strong and peaceful
Always growing, always huge
Yet dwells inside a human heart

Heart-long-leap
Boom-gush-torrent
Doors flung open
Wide and warm

No touch or kiss
Can quite express it
I need a word that says all this
But I can only call it Love

The Food of Love

i set the table squarely
on four firm legs for strength
covered with a sky blue cloth
a cloth of embroidered dreams
i place a plate of wholesome rice
the grain that will sustain you
and fish for all the secret of the unknown deep
a side salad of green leaves for growth
and olives for endless peace
all dresses in lifes rich herbs

in the centre stands a vase
a red rose for passion, a white for purity
a sprig of honesty, lovingly preserved
and the dark leaves of rosemary
for times remembrance

above the table, light shines
the light of open grace
a light to fill your days
and shine upon your face

you will bring the wine
it sparkles and shines in your eyes

Innocence and Fire

there was a time when love was simple

a clear and burning light that banished night

a gift given openly into acceptance

and all the world seemed clear and bright

my heart afire, i never dreamed of shadows

when love was young

a daisy chain could say it all

the days were never numbered

when we were still immortal

love and passion easy, my heart afire

the time of innocence is past

not all is ever as it seems

dark walls surround the garden

this world is harsh and shatters dreams

i am far older than i was

a steadfast heart will find a way

if we have mercy for each other

take my offered hand and grasp it

where doors are locked there is another

a heart afire can burn down walls
